Switching to HTML5 and other stuff…..

Before today I was using Flash-based embedded players for audio. As many people now use their smartphones and tablets to browse the web, I’ve switched all of the embedded SoundCloud players to HTML5 versions. Unfortunately, Mixcloud still doesn’t offer a HTML5 option, so occasionally I might have to use Flash, but I’ll do my best to avoid it wherever possible.

Also, I plan on putting a lot more focus into adding content to this blog in 2014, so expect regular updates, rather than the somewhat sporadic updates that have been posted up until now!

DJ Excel – Live @ The Do-Over

This mix was posted up by DJ Excel back in July. I don’t know why I didn’t post it up at the time, but the reason I’m posting it now is because it’s my favourite mix of 2013. I usually favour studio mixes over live sets, but I chose this as my mix of 2013 because it’s packed full of wicked tunes (it features over 70 tracks) and it’s really well mixed. No track listing is included, but it’s a multi-genre mix featuring soul, funk, hip-hop and one or two other bits and pieces. I had a go at IDing the tunes and got most of them, so if you want an incomplete track listing have a look at this thread on my forum. Enjoy!

Filthy Mitts – Operatin Turntables!

I’d not heard of Filthy Mitts before today, but they’re a 2 man crew out of Devon comprised of DJs Mix Masta Mullet and Madbeats. This is a really well put together hip-hop mix featuring some wicked cuts. Don’t sleep!

Morethan Ableson – The Morethan Ableson Old School Rave Mix

This mix is a departure from the type of mixes I’d usually post on here. Morethan Ableson has been a friend of mine for over 20 years and a DJ for just as long. Originally starting out as an all vinyl DJ, he recently switched to using Ableton and an APC-40. He puts a lot of effort into his mixes, chopping up songs and samples to enable him to create a mix on the fly that is beyond what’s possible with a pair of 1200s. This is a mix of classic old school rave tunes. There’s no track listing, but if you were a rave head in the 90s, you’ll love this!

DJ Moneyshot – Solid Steel & The Hour of Chaos

A great mix from DJ Moneyshot out of Bristol. This is along similar lines to the United States of Audio mix I posted on May 27th, except this time it’s a tribute to Public Enemy’s “It Takes a Nation of Millions…” album. It features original tracks, source samples, interview snippets and more. Check the SoundCloud page for the full track listing. Highly recommended!

United States of Audio – How High’s The Water Mama

Here’s a real treat from Bristol-based DJ and producer, United States of Audio. This mix is a tribute to the classic De La Soul album, 3 Feet High & Rising, put together over the course of several years using album tracks, original source samples, interview snippets and other rarities. If you’re a fan of De La Soul, don’t miss out on this one as it’s an incredible piece of work! The track listing is huge so I won’t post it here, but you can find it on the SoundCloud page. Enjoy!

DJ Rasp – The Motley Project

Here’s a wicked new mix from DJ Rasp. As you would expect from a DJ that’s won several top tier DJ battles, the technical side of this mix is absolutely rock solid. It’s a multi-genre mix featuring classic boom bap hip-hop, trap, modern rap tunes and more. There’s no track listing available for this one, but it’s definitely worth your time!

Sigma – XL-FM Guest Mix

This is a mix I made for The Bobby Tempo Show on XL-FM, a radio station in my home town. The first 7 tracks are funk/breaks/jazz and the second 7 are old school electro. Many thanks to Bobby for letting me on his show and to 215 trees for hooking me up with some artwork.
